Ko Mai Si

koh-kood

Ko Mai Si stands out as one of Ko Kut’s most unspoiled satellite islands, where untouched coral reefs meet powder-soft white sand beaches. This small uninhabited island offers some of the clearest waters in the Trat archipelago, making it a premier destination for snorkeling enthusiasts and beach lovers seeking complete solitude. The island’s compact size means you can walk its entire perimeter in under an hour, discovering secluded coves and natural rock formations along the way.

Crystal-clear turquoise waters reveal vibrant coral gardens just meters from shore, teeming with tropical fish including parrotfish, angelfish, and occasional reef sharks. The main beach on the western side features incredibly fine sand that squeaks beneath your feet, while the eastern coastline offers dramatic rocky outcrops perfect for photography. Snorkeling conditions are exceptional year-round, with visibility often exceeding 15 meters and gentle currents suitable for beginners. You’ll hear only the sound of waves lapping against unspoiled shores and tropical birds calling from the island’s interior vegetation. The coral formations are particularly impressive on the northern tip, where underwater boulders create natural swimming pools at low tide.

Pure tranquility defines the Ko Mai Si experience, where the absence of development creates an almost meditative atmosphere. The island feels like stepping back in time to untouched Southeast Asia, with no sounds of civilization interrupting the natural rhythm of ocean and wind. This sense of isolation makes every moment feel precious, whether you’re floating above coral gardens or simply lying on the beach watching clouds drift overhead.

Visit during the dry season from November to April for the calmest seas and best snorkeling visibility. Longtail boats from Ko Kut’s main piers take 15-20 minutes and can be arranged through local operators or your accommodation. Since no facilities exist on the island, bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and snorkeling gear. Most visitors combine Ko Mai Si with nearby Ko Rayang for a full day of island hopping, making it an ideal escape from Ko Kut’s already peaceful pace.
