Two-Color River View Point, Ubon Ratchathani

Overview

The Two-Color River View Point is a scenic spot located in the Khong Chiam District of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. It is known for its unique phenomenon where the Mekong and Mun Rivers meet, each displaying a distinct color due to the different sediments in their beds. The Mekong River is usually brown, while the Mun River appears blue. At the point where the two rivers converge, the contrast in color is strikingly visible, leading to the site’s moniker, “mae nam song sii,” or “two-color river.”

The village of Khong Chiam leverages this natural spectacle as a tourist attraction, offering a special viewpoint over the large body of water where the two rivers merge. From this vantage point, visitors can also enjoy views of Laos on the opposite side. Beyond the rivers, the village provides various amenities including shops, restaurants, a park, and several temples. Visitors can also partake in a trip using a longtail boat.

While the Two-Color River View Point is a fantastic destination for a day trip, there are also accommodations available for those who wish to extend their stay. Visitors can combine a trip to this attraction with a visit to the nearby Pha Taem National Park. The park houses a beautiful viewpoint where one can witness the first rays of the Thai sunrise each day, and it also offers three stunning waterfalls and ancient rock paintings that are more than 3000 years old.
